About Elemental Health
In-Person Therapy in Charleston, SC
I believe therapy is a deeply personal and collaborative process—one that requires patience, curiosity, and compassion. Healing is rarely linear, and the work often unfolds in ways we don’t expect. When given the right support, meaningful and lasting change is possible.
That’s why I founded Elemental Health; to build truly supportive therapy services that can meet the unique and ever-changing needs of my clients.

About Kristina Barry
I’m Kristina “Krissy” Barry, a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, and the founder of Elemental Health, LLC, where I work with adults and couples navigating trauma, anxiety disorders, depression, identity exploration, gender and sexual orientation, relationship stress and codependency, substance use, perfectionism, spiritual and existential concerns, and life transitions that bring unexpected stress or uncertainty.

My clinical work is informed by over a decade of experience across community mental health and group private practice settings. Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals, couples, and families with diverse backgrounds and presenting concerns, which has shaped my flexible, integrative approach to care.

My approach is client-centered and integrative.
I believe in meeting clients where they are and tailoring treatment to their unique goals, values, and lived experiences.
I draw from evidence-based modalities including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Somatic Experiencing (SE), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) skills, and trauma-informed care that works with nervous system regulation.

With each client, I take a collaborative approach to healing. Together, we work to understand patterns, strengthen skills, process lived experiences as they unfold, and cultivate resilience—moving at a pace that honors your needs and readiness.

What to Expect
Inquiry & First Steps
After reaching out through my contact form, phone, or Psychology Today profile, I’ll send over the initial paperwork—intake forms, consent documents, and practice policies—via online portal (paper forms available upon request).

Prior to your appointment, you’ll receive detailed instructions for arrival and check-in.

Intake & Assessment
Your first appointment will be an intake session to discuss what’s bringing you in, review relevant history, and begin identifying goals for therapy. This session helps determine goodness of fit, clarify next steps, and assess whether any referrals may be clinically appropriate.
Treatment Planning
Once we ensure Elemental Health is a good fit for you, we’ll begin the process of treatment planning. Treatment planning is collaborative, individualized, and flexible, evolving as your needs and capacity change. Together, we identify focus areas and initial goals for therapy.

Implementation & Next Steps
Based on your treatment plan, we will begin ongoing therapy sessions (typically weekly or biweekly) focused on insight, nervous system regulation, emotional processing, and integration.
Therapy may incorporate evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches, including:
-
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
-
Somatic Experiencing–informed therapy (SE in training)
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
-
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills
-
Narrative Therapy
-
Parts work / inner parts exploration using Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed approaches
-
Mindfulness-based practices
-
Attachment-informed and relational approaches
-
Empirically supported and ethically applied spiritual practices, when clinically appropriate and aligned with a client’s values and belief system
All modalities are used thoughtfully, collaboratively, and within ethical and professional guidelines.
Throughout your regular therapy sessions, we will periodically review progress, revisit goals, and adjust focus or pacing as needed. When appropriate and with written consent, collaboration with other providers may support continuity of care.

When goals are met or needs shift, we plan next steps with care—whether that means spacing out our sessions, moving into a maintenance phase, or closing out therapy with intention.

About EMDR & Somatic Experiencing
At Elemental Health, Trauma Intensive sessions are just one more way I create space for deep healing work with my clients. My Trauma Intensives employ EMDR and Somatic Experiencing practices in 3-hour sessions that go deeper than the typical therapy session can.
Intensives are collaborative, carefully paced, and grounded in safety, regulation, and integration.
